Widespread Disruption Across Telangana

Hyderabad and several parts of Telangana are facing severe disruption as Cyclone Montha made landfall around midnight, bringing relentless heavy rains and strong winds across the state.

IMD Issues Red and Orange Alerts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad has issued a red alert for Khammam and Warangal districts, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and dangerous weather conditions.
Residents in these regions have been advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
An orange alert has also been declared for Kothagudem, Hanamkonda, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Vikarabad, and Suryapet districts.

Cyclone Origin and Path

Originating over the Bay of Bengal, the cyclone’s effects have been felt since Tuesday evening.
According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, the system is currently moving northeast, continuing to bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning to several regions.

Hyderabad Faces Intense Rainfall

Within Hyderabad, several localities — including Gachibowli, Lingampalli, Madhapur, and Hitech City — have recorded intense downpours.
Areas such as Qutubullapur, Kukatpally, Miyapur, and Alwal remain waterlogged, causing major traffic congestion and difficulties for daily commuters.

Khammam District Hit Hard

In Khammam district, the situation is particularly alarming. Continuous rainfall has caused severe damage to paddy and cotton crops.
Mining zones like Manuguru, Illandu, and Sattupalli have been flooded, disrupting coal production and affecting local industries.
Authorities are closely monitoring the Paleru reservoir, which has reached 22.5 feet, just below its maximum capacity of 23 feet.

Authorities Urge Caution

The IMD has warned that thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall are likely to continue in the coming hours.
Authorities have urged residents to follow official weather updates, remain cautious, and avoid travel until the cyclonic conditions subside.
